i have 2*8 gigs 1600mhz corsair vengeance ddr3. it was fixed in 1 st and second slot. i read somewhere that there is something called dual channel which can be activated by using slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 so i swapped my second slot to 3rd one. so i have now 1 and 3 slots used when i restarted my pc it showed 2 to 3 errors including kernel security and one more which i am not able to remember now. so instantly i swapped those memory into older pattern 1 and 2 and when i started my pc it was working now!
my rigs
asus z97 a
2*8 gigs ddr3 1600 corsiar
500w psu
gtx 750 ti zotac 2 gb
i7 4790k
this built is over 4 yrs old so maybe my other modules faulty?

Solution

The best course is the use of a matched set of RAM for dual channel memory. Your RAM isn't a matched set. They aren't even from the same brand.

That is my point. Either use a single stick of RAM in single channel. Or purchase a matched set of RAM for dual channel memory. I also suggested trying another stick of the exact same model as a possibility (may work may not).

First off, I would check the motherboard manual for the installation of dual channel memory RAM sticks. My Asus motherboard recommends A2 & B2 which conforms to #2 and #4 slots. They are usually color coded for dual channel use.

You can download the motherboard manual here.

The way you listed the RAM may indicate that it isn't a matched set of RAM. If it is just two sticks of 8GB RAM (not the exact same), then single channel may be the best way to install the two sticks.

The reason is that matched sets get the exact same memory timings settings. Using the two memory channels gives it a bit more latitude for differences in the RAM.
