I have a Dell Inspiron 3650 with an i5 6400 Skylake. My b day is coming up and I want to upgrade my CPU to something a little better. Would this work without having to replace my Mobo?

Specs
Intel core i5 6400
12 gigs of DDR3 ram
GeForce GT 730 (soon to be an rx560 4gb lp)
1t hhd @7200 rpm
240W 80+ Bronze PSU
Custom made Dell MOBO

Solution
No, the i3-8100 (and other 8th-gen Intel) require a 300 series motherboard; whereas the i5-6400 will only work on a 100 or 200 series motherboard. In other words they cannot use the same motherboard.

Why do you think you need a CPU upgrade? Your i5-6400 should be fine with your future RX 560.
