My router is not in the same room as my PC, so basically I can't use an ethernet cable.

Only option is to use a USB WiFi Adapter. Are those good enough? There are 2 walls seperating PC room from router, approx 10m/32ft distance

I just don't want to have a crap connection, packet loss when playing games etc.

Always difficult to know for sure - many variables.

2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, what channel to use, etc.?

My recommendation is to give it a try. Use a USB extention cable to raise the USB adapter up and away from the host PC.

Experiment. With an extenstion cable you can move the USB wireless adapter around some - just a few inches may make a difference.

I do so for an upstairs PC about (straightline) 50 feet through roof and two walls.....
