Wait for Black Friday/ Cyber Monday or PC build or just proceed now?

■ My last build was in 2011 with an AMD Athlon 965(!). Boy so much have changed.

Things got rolling when I won an MSI RX570 4gb in eBay for $115 shipped. Right now, Ryzen 5 2600 at Amazon is on sale for $165.

Should I wait for Black Friday for deeper discounts or just proceed now? I can use the 3TB hdd and 250gb ssd form my older build so storage I believe is already set.

I built my last gaming pc last December and shopped for all the components in November. I bought most items on Newegg, Amazon and B+H, and took a lot of advantage of promotional discounts and mail-in rebates. but most components I bought before black Friday. If I would have waited for Black Friday I probably would have saved additional 5-10%. But usually they start good deals and discounts already a few weeks before Black Friday. So I would say, if you want to save overall you might want to wait until beginning to mid-November to start ordering components, but if you can't or don't want to wait another month, start shopping now but don't compare prices in November.

It is possible, but not sure, that this processor is on offer in B.F. and that costs, for example, $ 20 less, but it may also rise.
At the moment there is a huge shortage of Intel CPU and the main competitor of R 5 2600 (the I5-8400) has gone up in price in recent weeks.

You are going to need a new motherboard compatible with the new processor as well as DDR4 memory.

Although possibly the price of the particular processor you want does not vary much in black friday, you are more likely to find some offer for memory or motherboards. Therefore I would wait.

Remember that changing the motherboard requires you to change your windows license if it is OEM. If the license is for free exchange from windows 7 or windows 8 you can manage the change of PC for free. You can see information on the microsoft website on how to do it.
