Dear all,

I'm not sure is possible but what I would like to accomplish is a External Hard Drive connected to my TV (QLED Q7FN) using USB wire but at the time available on the network (via Samba/CIFS for instance) so I can map the network path to remotely manage 4k content.

I already use Plex for 1080p media but for 4k doesn't seem to be be an option. Also DLNA never worked well for me.

Do you have any NAS or similar device that would help me to reach this goal?

Thank you!

Hi USAFRet, thanks a lot for your input. lt needs to be available on the LAN since I want to use tools like Plex and Sonarr with this disk but for 4K media the goal is to play direct on the TV (using the USB).

I have a ethernet port near so it can, like you suggested, be connected to my router (ASUS AC3200) but this QNAP you mentioned allow me to use both Ethernet and USB at the same time? If yes, could you please share the model?

I don't know about USB out to the TV. That would also depend on the TV's capabilities, to read a regular hard drive type thing. Not all can.

The Qnap I have will do HDMI direct to the TV if desired.

Sorry my late response, really busy days. HDMI output could be an excellent workaround. Not my first choice since I'm really pleased with the built in player and using an standard external HDD with 4K HDR media I didn't faced any issue. But since it looks I'm searching for a something that doesn't exists I'll look really carefully on HDMI capabilities on NAS devices.

Thank you again for the valuable tip.
