Right now Im running an i5 4670 along 16gb of ram (2x8gb) and a GTX 1080ti on an itx platform.

Im planning on upgrade my cpu since the gpu prices for 20 series are a NO for me on my country, so my options are the next:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 2600 + Gigabyte Ga-ab350n-gaming Wifi + 16gb 2666mhz adata xpg gammix

    Intel i5 8400 + Gigabyte mini ITX B360N WIFI + 16gb 2666mhz adata xpg gammix

(The prices is the same for both options.)

Im more interested on long term gaming performance, I game at 1440p/4k, lower temps and lower power consumption. Thanks in advance.

How much better 1700 actually is, is debatable. 2 Extra cores is nice, depends on what you use it for.
Pretty much same, but still, if you think you need 2 more cores, go for it, because more cores should give it longevity.

Hmm, lower power consumption might favor Intel. But I think the R5-2600 is a better processor in terms of longevity.

Nothing wrong with just getting an i7-4790 though. That would be roughly as fast as i5-8400. Wouldn't have quite as many threads as the R5 though.

Getting a i7 4790 cost the same $110 bucks I need to invest on getting either the i5 or R5, (I will be selling the old parts to a friend), will it be worth to still get the i7 4790 ?

Just keep in mind that if you're going for a 2nd Gen CPU like the R5 2600. You will need a 2nd Gen Mobo, which are the B450 and NOT the B350. However, I would recommend the Intel as you are only getting 266Mhz and this build is only for gaming. Although the Ryzen option is good as well.

We all like the newest/fanciest things, but I think your best upgrade would be a I7-4790K.
Here are some passmark performance numbers:
# threads total single thread
4670 4 7432 2155
4790K 8 11183 2530
i5-8400 6 11,714 2336
r5-2600 12 13,497 2015

Few games are going to make effective use of more than 4 threads.
One exception is multiplayer.
The single thread performance is usually most important.

I do not know what a i7-4790K will cost you, but even running at stock it would seem to me to be the better upgrade.

B350 do support 2nd Gen cpu with the latest BIOS and will support AMD new gens until 2020. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-AB350N-Gaming-WIFI-rev-10#support-cpu

The i7 'k' version wont be of any use for me, since my motherboard doesnt support OC, so Im stuck with non-k versions. Sorry if I left that small detail out of the main post. i7-4790 new are around $300-400 and $150-200 used here in my country. Even if I get a used one for $50 more I can upgrade to a new gen platform, thats why Im considering to do it, unless I get no benefit on upgrading,

The K version has a higher clock rate at stock and will run better than a plain i7-4700 at stock.

From a cpu performance point of view, there is not a whole lot of difference among the processors we are talking about for gaming.
Here is a comparison of the i5-8400 vs. r5-2600 in 36 games.

I looked for a 450 itx mobo but the ones I found are outside my budget, the one I listed is $110 and the 450 itx I found are above $200

I honestly never knew there would be such a discrepency between the prices, as the price difference shouldn't really be that much, but sure, save the money and go with the 350.

I know, sadly the prices here in Mexico are crazy.

What do you think of getting the Ryzen 1700 ? more cpu core/threads or is not worth it compared to the 2600 ?
