I have a 3tb hard drive that I've been using in my PC for over one year. It has 2tb of my work files on it. I last backed it up to a 4tb hard drive 3 months ago, so everything from the last 3 months is not backed up.

Today I decided to take the failing 3tb out and replace it with the 4tb drive. So I did that, but when I put the 4tb in the PC for some reason it was GPT protected partition so I had to use diskpart to clean the disk, now I erased it, thinking I could get all my files from my 3tb when I hook it up externally.

Now when I plug the 3tb in to an external mount it is showing up in disk management, but now it's showing up as GPT protected too! Why is that? It was just working fine in the PC when it was inside and connected via SATA yesterday. Why is it now unaccesable?

I am so confused. I need to get the files off this 3tb hard drive so wiping it clean with diskpart is not an option. Please help :(

Can you show us the Partitions window in DMDE?

Sometimes external enclosures are configured for a 4KB sector size. Still others have a 32-bit LBA limitation which results in a maximum capacity of 2TiB.
