Hello,
I have an issue with my EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti (blower style). The monitor screen goes black for a few seconds multiple times a day while PC is actively used. I did multiple tests to verify which component causes the problem and looks like the GPU is to blame.
Switched cables, ports, monitors, downclocked GPU, tried different drivers and eventually connected the GPU to a second PC just to reproduce the same issue.
How it started
In March 2018 I disassembled the card, cleaned dust and applied a new thermalpaste. It worked fine and the temperatures went down. Soon after that I left for a month long vacation. Came back, installed new drivers and a few weird issues started. My main monitor ran at 60 Hz instead of 144 Hz and I wasn't able to select 144 Hz anymore. Also monitors (I'm using 2 monitors: 144 Hz and 60 Hz) kept going black for a few seconds regularly. Installing the drivers from before my vacation fixed frequency setting problem but was still going black from time to time.
I eventually swapped PCs as this one was interferring with my activities while my wife didn't care that much about screen going off for a few seconds.
The problem still happens with a GPU downclocked and a single 60 Hz monitor. Sometimes the problem happens only a few times a day and sometimes 6 times in 2 minutes. Pretty random, but my wife noticed that when the other PC is off the problem is less frequent. Often when I turn on my PC her monitor starts blacking out regularly. Not sure why would this matter. It never was an issue before. I expect that both PCs are in the same circuit (different wall sockets but in the same room).
Other problems in the past
Early 2015 my main monitor didn't want to turn on when connected via DisplayPort. Found multiple similar threads and managed to fix the problem.
In December 2017 I played Divinity: Original Sin 2 co-op with my wife that kept freezing regularly. Eventually I hit the wall in last boss encounter. The game kept freezing every single time. Problem was solved after downclocking the GPU.
The GPU was slightly overclocked since purchase Dec 2013 in MSI Afterburner. GPU was running hotter because of 144Hz and 60Hz monitors. PC cleaned every 2 years but case have good filters so there wasn't that much dust inside.
Any ideas what might be the problem? Is there anything I should check?
