So I searched (after I already tore my PC apart to remove everything except my boot SSD and storage HDD.)

And everyone says you MUST uninstall all the amd drivers and software before installing a new Nvidia card.

I currently have all the new stuff plugged in and installed. (Ryzen 2600, 16gb ddr4, gtx1070)

But i haven't given it power yet.

Is there a way around my fxxkup of not uninstalling that crap? Can i take the 1070 out and put the old card back in, power it up and then delete the drivers?

Or is there a way without taking the new card back out again?

Or did i really screw myself and will have to take the whole thing apart to put all the old guts back in just to take off the drivers?

Thanks,
Ben

If you want to remove graphics drivers, you're best served to use DDU to do so; however, you need to be careful and follow the instructions to the letter so as to not remove something vital that can't be easily fixed.

MUST you uninstall the old AMD drivers? I don't know about that, but it's advisable. Will it work if you fire it up? Probably. I guess you're going to have to wait for some additional helpers to chime in.

You mentioned new cpu as well, did you upgrade your entire platform or just upgraded from a lower tier am4 cpu?
If you're running windows 10 chances are you can power it up and it should boot, but there is also the chance of it not booting due to the new hardware.
If it's just a cpu upgrade then no issues there.

As for the graphics card drivers, there's no issues with having the amd drivers still installed while booting up, as SkyBill40 suggested, just use DDU to remove the old amd drivers then install the nvidia drivers.

I am going from a 1090t BE >ryzen 2600

So not the same motherboard, ram or processor.

I'm not opposed to reinstalling windows, but I used the free upgrade to windows 10 from the initial Windows 7 pro system builder edition

Does anyone know how that works? Am I now stuck with 7? Or is my product key now associated with Windows 10?

Also I have about terabyte of music on my storage drive. What will happen with that if I reinstall Windows?

Upon further research it looks like I'm gonna have to reassemble the old setup. Crap.

I need to do some nonsense with linking my win10 license with my Microsoft account before i change hardware.

Might be better for me to go buy a cheap case then to take everything out and put the old stuff in, link the account and delete the drivers, then undo everything again.

Ugh my head is spinning. I need a drink.

I missed that you were upgrading but by the same manufacturer as far as CPU is concerned. Having said that, yes, you're going to want to link your license before doing anything as that should allow you to carry over your OS just fine. A clean install would still be better, but at least it'll work (or should) straight away.

Ok I'm running my old setup on my desk, with the motherboard perilously perched on an old plastic cd spindle. Found out that I already linked my os to my Microsoft account.

Now I'm using it to make a USB boot disk for the fresh Windows install. Wish me luck, lol.

Got it up and running with a fresh windows install, but I have a couple issues.

1) windows won't activate.

2) my sound won't come out of the sound jacks on the motherboard, only from the crappy monitor speakers.

I went on the ASrock website and downloaded some drivers (not very descriptive as to what they are for, so hopefully they don't screw up my nvidia card drivers)

I used a "system builder edition windows 7 pro" when I put my pc together the first time. Then I used the free upgrade to win10.

like I mentioned earlier when I booted my old pc on my desk, I had already associated my MS account with my windows license before I booted the new hardware.

I followed the steps in the article above, to no avail. It just kept saying "cannot activate windows on this device, please try again later"

I did fix the license issue by changing the product key to my original windows 7 SB key. it activated win10 pro just like I had.

so far no luck on the audio, except by plugging my speakers into the front panel headphone jack, which is jank.

I can get audio through nvidia on either of my monitors, and the front panel headphone jack. but none of the other ports are functional.

I downloaded the all in one package from the asrock site, but it didn't seem to give me sound software. idk.
