Should I wait for Black Friday to buy a 1070Ti / new GFX card

I have been trying to decide what the best plan is for buying a new GFX card for my fairly old rig. Should I wait for Black Friday or just go ahead and buy one now as I am concerned that there will not be a great deal of stock left for the Black Friday deals? I have already noticed on the site I use to buy my components that a bunch of manufacturers have stopped producing or selling certain cards and I tend to stick with EVGA in the main and already since the 2080 / RTX cards came out a lot of cards have been removed from the site (scan.co.uk)

To help in terms of spec I currently run:-

i7 3.4GHz Intel Ivy bridge CPU
2GB EVGA GTX 680 SC
Asus Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard
16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
180GB Corsair Force GS SSD
3TB Seagate Baracuda SATA III HDD
1TB Seagate Baracuda SATA III HDD
Iiyama 144Hz monitor @ 1080p / 720p (depending on the game I am playing)

I am looking at the idea of upgrading my GFX card to a 1070Ti or possibly a 1080Ti but I am really unsure as to whether it is worth waiting for Black Friday or just going for it now? I know that my rig is pretty old but I can't afford to upgrade the whole thing right now and want to get a GFX card that I can use in the rig I end up upgrading my PC into eventually!

Any suggestions etc are welcome!

When to buy is your decision, and so is the price you consider to be reasonable to pay.

With Black Fridays.... rarely see anything I consider worthwhile (the last two years in the UK most have been 'boring'). Unless you know what you want is going to be discounted then it could be the case of waiting for a discount which doesn't happen. This would mean waiting to buy something at the same price as it is now.

The other factor is, can you accept the performance of your PC until Black Friday sales? If you can't, then you have your answer.

I agree with you regarding the possibility of the card not being reduced by much/at all and that was my main worry in regards to waiting until Black Friday - also the possibility of the cards becoming even more difficult to get hold of potentially as a result of waiting too long! I am just gonna bite the bullet and go for it when I get paid I think - the thought of missing out and then being stuck waiting for a restock which might never come is also a slight worry for me! Cheers for the input, it's definitely helped to make my mind up and I don't feel like the prices are going to drop too much further between now and then so I am gonna go for it!

We still haven't seen the GTX 1080 ti drop much despite the new RTX cards (ignoring the miner prices). And it seems most cards haven't really changed in pricing much either.

I bit the bullet on a GTX 1070 ti a while back when it dipped below the launch price. When I look at the same card now it's a bit more expensive than when I got it. On that note, you may want to use PC Part Picker to see the price history of a particular card.

Yeah for sure - going to be checking out the best prices on PC part picker and then narrowing down which cards to go for; I am considering the EVGA 1070Ti SC Black Edition, MSI 1070Ti Armor and the Asus ROG Strix if I can find a decent deal on it! What card did you opt for in the end?

I got a KFA2 GTX 1070 ti EX. Usually only Overclockers have it (and they're the only authorised partner for KFA2 here), though I got mine through Amazon.

I would say I'm not too sure about the MSI Armor. I've seen reviews for the GTX 1080 Armor which suggests its cooling performance isn't that good. The 1070 ti is very close to the 1080, so I'd imagine it may suffer similar issues.

Cheers for the heads up on the MSI card - I have actually been struggling to find a review of it but will consider it carefully now I know a little bit about it's potential flaws!

If I recall correctly, I think it was Gamers Nexus reviewing the 1080 (ti). They mentioned the circuit board was top quality, but the cooler was poor. Which meant it was ideal for a custom cooling solution; ideal for those who liquid cool their graphics card.
