The budget it tight so i would probably prefer R3 more, but performance is quite important too. Will i5 outperform it a lot or just a little bit? Planing to play something like Battlefield 1 or Shadow of the Tomb Raider and i would settle for medium-low settings to save some money

^ well no, becuase simply you shouldnt pick the i5 , you should pick the ryzen , the diffwrence betqeen them is insignificant , the ryzen is on a new upgradable platform.

A 4 year old haswell i5 makes absolutely no sense in 2018.

@theonerm2 - my previous reply was aimed at Greeko85 above you who stated the i5 was 'significantly better'
In terms of raw performance the 4690k is significantly better. The main drawback with it though is that it doesn't offer an upgrade path whereas the am4 platform of the 2200g opens up various possibilities. What gpu are you pairing with your system?

Only get the i5 if you have a z97 or other compatible socket 1150 motherboard already. Otherwise go with Ryzen. The Ryzen 3 2200G with its integrated graphics can play the games listed at very low settings. If you get let's say a GTX 1050 minimum your gameplay experience will improve. I Really recommend the 1050 ti or GTX 1060.

Planing to buy GTX 970 4G as the GPU. I'm building a brand new PC and just trying to find a good build rn, so RAM, Mobo are still to be decided. Would i5 be better if paired with GTX 970? Also would a 1050 ti outperform GTX 970? I'm completely new to all this stuff. And also, will 12 GB RAM be enough for nowadays AAA games on medium-low settings?

I think it's significantly better.
