So a friend of the family asked me to build their kids their first computer. I'm kind of behind on what is out there now because there is SO MUCH.

Here are the requirements:

Either Ryzen or Intel build. Was thinking building around the i3 8300? That way they can use the integrated graphics and upgrade to a GPU later if they want.

Needs:

Budget: $500 or cheaper, cheaper will always be the main idea here as it's their first computer. Their kids are like ages 8-10 I believe.

CPU: with integrated graphics, or cheap decent one that will fit well with a budget GPU.

GPU: if possible to fit into budget with CPU. Was thinking gtx 970 possibly?

PSU: Have no idea what wattage I would need for this, so leave opinions.

MOBO: No idea again what to get for an i3 8300.

SSD: I see 120gb and 248gb for like $25-50 now, so I don't think that should be a huge issue.

CASE: See many decent ones for around $50.

RAM: No idea on this one either.

MONITOR Cheap one. Will probably have to go used on this as these can get overpriced really fast it seems. I've seen some for like $50-60 refurb 16:9 I think.

They can worry about getting a mouse and keyboard from wal-mart or something. I just want to know the best possible build at the cheapest price with items listed above. I am fully capable of putting it all together, so parts are fine. Thanks for help in advance and let me know anything I might have missed.

Solution
Yes that board will work for the 8100, the iGPU on it is ok but if there going without a dedicated GPU for awhile I would go with the AMD 2200G as the Vega 8 iGPU is much better.

Actually you could go 2400G (4C/8T) with Vega 11 which is about the same as the GT 1030.

That looks pretty promising. I may sub the gpu and cpu out for an i3 8100. Would that h310m mobo work with the i3 8100? I kind of want them to have a quad core cpu in case they want to upgrade later. It is for learning and applications, but I didn't want them to have to worry about replacing their cpu later, mainly just upgrading to a gpu. That way if they enjoy it they can work towards saving up for a GPU to pair with their i3 for playing games or something. Thanks for reply and any other opinions are appreciated.
