Hello all,

I was wondering whether or not i should upgrade my current CPU to an i7-8700k. My specs are as follows:

CPU: i7-7700 non k
MoBo: B250M-A
RAM: 2x 8gb @2133mhz
GPU: EVGA 1080 ti SC Black Edition
HDD: 1TB WD Blue @7200RPM
PSU: 650W Rosewill Gaming 80 plus gold

I am looking for maximum performance. I know this is most definitely overkill for 1080 p gaming but i plan on upgrading my current monitor setup to 1440p sooner rather than later. If i were to upgrade my CPU to an 8700k i would also upgrade my RAM as well to 3200mhz.

Please let me know your thoughts! Thanks!

I'd say you need an SSD more than anything. After that the 1440p monitor. Then maybe the i7-8700K, except that 9th-gen is supposed to release soon. *Edit: But the CPU upgrade isn't exactly necessary. Only if you have money to spend on a Z-mobo and like you said 3200MHz RAM to optimize performance.

What RAM do you have? Be specific. Needing to know the specs. Maybe it can be overclocked if you had a Z-mobo.

The way I see it, and I could be wrong. But putting the extra money in to a good G-SYNC 144Hz (1440p) monitor would negate the lower performance of your i7-7700 + 2133MHz RAM.
