Question from himanshugangwal12 : "I Need Help"
himanshugangwal12 :
What is the maximum amount of ram I can use with Core2Quad q6600 and core2duo e7500?
On 32 and 64bit os??
What are the requirements for 6gb DDr3 ram??
I think the max ram will be dependant on your motherboard as if I remember correctly the memory controller was on the mobo for the duo series? (Someone correct me if im wrong).
Indeed. But OP didn't post the make and model of his motherboard which is a shame, this way he/she would have gotten better advice from all of us. But his system being 32-bit that pretty much makes the memory upgrade he is planning - pointless, even if his board could support it. And some motherboards for that CPU don't support 6 GB of RAM even when the manual claims they do, this was true of a couple of ASUS boards I tried to upgrade in the past. Had the OP posted board make and model - I would have just referred him to its online manual, and hope it accurately represents what the board is actually capable of. As things are this CPU and board are a decade old. If I were himanshugangwal12 - I would have just gotten a more up-to-date AMD CPU and board, - when something is that old it can only be upgraded so much. And bringing it from 2 to 4/6 GB would have just added a tiny bit more multi-functionality, I upgraded RAM on those boards many times with little to no appreciable difference. Many people incorrectly assume RAM will somehow boost the speed of your CPU or magically make your PC faster - I get a lot of calls from clients asking me to upgrade RAM for all the wrong reasons LOL.
