Graphics issue, freezing

My laptop will occasionally freeze while doing light tasks such as having a few windows open while doing homework. It hasn't had any issues under heavy load such as gaming. This leads me to believe it is an issue with my internal graphics card. This isn't a complete freeze though. Only the screen freezes (aside from mouse), I was able to open a browser, navigate to pandora, and listen to music, all while my screen was frozen. I have checked for driver updates, and there were none. I have cleaned fans just to be sure its not a heat problem ( I didn't think it was but it was recommended to me and couldn't hurt). And at this point I am out of ideas. Its very annoying to do homework when I have to shut down and reopen everything every 10-15 minutes. I am considering just disabling my intel card and sticking to only the nvidia card. But it would be better if I could fix the problem. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Solution
Might be software conflicts, malware, or even a failing device. I would first try to eliminate the software conflicts first. That may solve the issue. Run CCleaner and do the Clean and Registry portions both.
Then run Malwarebytes to search out any poorly written malware code you may have picked up. Follow that by a FULL virus scan.
