Hi - I've just bought a new PC build, i'm very new to PC's and gaming and so I'm hoping someone can help.. This PC seems to have some really decent parts, but can barely run any games even on the very lowest settings.

Specs (as advertised by the seller) - I haven't bothered overclocking, but I figured that wont be the biggest issue?

Specs:
Intel i7 930 processor currently running at 2.8Ghz but can be clocked up to 3.7Ghz +
6 Slot RAM space currently with 12GB of RAM (capacity of up to 16 GB)
2 x 64GB SSD drives
Windows 10 Pro
Water cooling system for the CPU
Black Pro Gaming case with Red LEDs
MSI Motherboard X58M
ACER graphics card GeForce 210 (High res output with VGA, DVI and HDMI)
Comes with an additional spare Vapor-X R9 270x 2G D5 graphics card (DP, DVI, VGA, HDMI output)

Any help would be really appreciated

Sorry to say, but it will be your specs. Particularly the Graphics Card if you are using the GeForce GT 210 - it is pretty much as low end as GPUs go. The 270x is much better but still not fantastic, is that plugged in?
For the rest of your system, the I7 is old and seeing it's age quite a bit.
Did you pay a lot for the system?

This is an 8 year old pc with an absolutly horrible gpu in it. The r9 270x is at least 30x better than the gt210. I seriously hope you didn't pay more than 300$ for this system because of you did you got seriously ripped off.

Thats not a "new pc build" and the specs are not "good or decent",you bought old junk with one of the worst graphic cards that came out 9 years ago.How much did you pay for this machine? The cpu goes for $10 on ebay and gpu $15 with free shipping

I paid £300, I think that’s like $325 - the 270x is not plugged in. I also have a Accelero nvidia GeForce 8800GT, how does that stack up?

Definitely, It is not a strong GPU at all. Put the 270x in and see how that goes.
The 8800GT is ancient, not worth using... £300 was a bit much for that

You payed a good amount for a pretty cruddy system. Definatly change out the gpu for the 270x. The 8800gt can't compare to the 270x.

The geforce 210 is a basic display adapter and struggles to even play games from 2003 at low settings.

I have no idea why the 210 would be installed and not the R9 270x.
Something tells me the 270x might be bad and that's why it has the 210 installed.

Anyway:

1: Uninstall the Nvidia drivers.
2: Turn PC off and remove the 210 video card.
3: Install the R9 270x. Make sure to plaug in the additional power cable into the 270x
4: Turn the PC on, go to here and download the drivers that match your version of windows. https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-r9-series/amd-radeon-r9-200-series/amd-radeon-r9-270x

If this was a friend of yours that sold you that PC for that price........unfriend him.

I was being a little too harsh. It's an older PC that isn't going to play the modern games well but if you're looking to play games like Fortnite, CS:GO, ect.. it should be OK. I'm just wondering why he didn't install the R9 270x. It's clearly the best video card by far.

Yes. Suspicious that person was not using the 270x instead of the 210. Do a check if the 270x works. It should give some better performance, but the 930 will still struggle in many new games.

Considering the system has pretty poor specs, could you check what PSU is in there? That will severely restrict your upgrade options if it is a poor unit.

That isn't his issue. It's a GeForce 210. That isn't going to play games (which he's looking to do). It's a card used for surfing the internet and Facebook.

The problem is people see a pc with an i7 and 12gb of ram touted as a "gaming pc" think they are getting a bargain. I wish more people would do a bit of research beforehand. Honestly I wouldn't have paid more than £100 for the system.

Only reason 12 GB is 100 is because of a lack of supply due to DDR4 being the main stream now. This system is worth 150 to 200 at best, and that is stretching it if the 270x is a dud.

@OP:
Any results turned out? Is it working better with the 270x? Do you have any budget for upgrading.

I'm very aware of the reason the why memory costs so much these days but that still doesn't change the fact that it's currently worth 100.

^ certainly worth more than £100 but definitely not £300.

I think the OP was deawnin by maybe fancy looks, water cooling , the 2 ssd's etc.

Fact is though a 240gb ssd can be had for £30 now, I can source barely used ddr 3 for £12 for 2 x4gb sticks.

Ddr4 is expensive , ddr3 is not.

That's why you go used.
