What is the device's name that connects from PC to WIFI

Access point, Bridge,wifi modem,Wireless WAN, wifi router, extender...

Its usually found as a USB dongle that allows you to connect to wifi. I need one that connects to the ethernet port not USB and they all look similar. I need to be able to search for wifi hotspots with it such as xfinity. I've read many descriptions of the names mentioned above but the terminology used isn't put in plain english.

I need to go with ethernet not USB because it will be 30' away and I already have cat5/6, crimper and ends plus its a much small hole in the wall than a USB would require.

None of the ones you list although extender is a silly name that covers many things.

What you want is called a client-bridge. They used to be very common when game consoles only had ethernet ports. Now they sell repeater/extenders that can run in many different modes one of which is client-bridge.

From the sounds of it you are trying to use devices outside your house. I would look at directional bridge equipment from ubiquiti. These are can run in a number of modes but the client-bridge is the default. Directional bridges tend to have more range because the signal is concentrated into a single direction.

Thank you. Do you see what i mean "client bridge" isn't very intuitive if you don't work in the field. So if a router or AP has the capabilities of "client bridge" than that should also do correct ?

I am doing directional, the Yagi antenna post you replied to the other day which is copied from a commercial unit. I'm not looking to spend a bunch of money at this point, no wifi hotspots may be reachable from my place. I will then have to go the 4G route and not be able to stream video.

Luckily I found that my Cisco WAP321 says "client bridge" I started a new post asking for help setting it up. I managed to get it to find the Wifi routers/modems in the building .
