Hey guys sorry for asking this if it's allready been asked and answered.

Question is can anyone tell me of a reliable way to test my SSD's bandwidth to determine if it's connected to SATA II or SATA III port ?? Asking this because on my laptop my old HDD had started to fail and i decided to replace it with a SSD but couldn't find any info anywhere on what ports my laptop has are they SATA II or III but i bought it and plugged it in anyway. My old HDD was SATA II so i was wondering if my SSD is working in SATA II speeds or my motherboards was actually capable of supporting SATA III all this time :D

Every drive maker has software. That should tell you the mode it's running in. You can also run a speed test on the drive. 0-150MBps is SATA I, 150-300 is SATA II, and 300+ is SATA III. The drive you use matters btw. Some cheap drives will read really fast, say 500MBps, but will write at 250MBps. You should look up your drive and see if you are getting the speed you expect.

The other fun thing that might happen is 3rd party chips. When I got my SATA III SSD, I plugged it into a SATA III port and got ~350MBps R/W speeds. This was barely faster than my SATA II drive, and 200MBps slower than the drive I'm using can do. Turns out I wasn't using the SATA ports native to the board. i got a Samsung 860 EVO and Samsung Magician says on Interface SATA 6GB but i wasn't sure if it was the SSD's interface or the actual interface/speed it's running at because i thought why would Acer put SATA 2 HDD if the motherboard supported SATA 3 :D but i guess since Magicians says in Overview it's SATA 6GB interface and on Magician's Performance Benchmark is giving me 554 read and 510 write i guess it's SATA 3 :D ty for the help

1 question though can you or someone else help out with. Are the Random(IOPS) Read 48.095 and Write 42,724 i get according to Magician normal since on Samsung's website it's marketed as

RANDOM READ (4KB, QD32) Up to 98,000 IOPS
RANDOM WRITE (4KB, QD32) Up to 90,000 IOPS
RANDOM READ (4KB, QD1) Up to 10,000 IOPS
RANDOM WRITE (4KB, QD1) Up to 42,000 IOPS
