upgrading ram beginner

i want to upgrade my ram... my dell xps 8920 came with 2 8gb ram sticks...i wanted to upgrade to another 16gb...but do i get 2 8gb sticks or could i go with just 1 16gb stick? idk know if it makes a difference but i heard you should go with what your pc game with..i used crucial.com to get a diagnostics of ram sticks that are compatible with my pc

This should help you. Since you want 16GB of ram on your system, I'd ask you to invest in a 2x8GB DDR4-2400MHz dual channel ram kit.

For gaming you won´t need another 16GB of RAM, but if you still wanna upgrade, use the tiny tool CPU-Z and have a look which RAM you´ve already installed. Should look like:

The manufacturer and model (part number) should be identical.
Get a 2x 8GB kit or sell your 2 and get a 2x16GB kit

You shouls go for 2x8Gb. It's always better than going for a 1x16Gb. Think of it this way, you're splitting the work load between 2 sticks instead of just one stick. But has to be a dual pack, not two single separate sticks. Although 2 separate 8Gb sticks is still betfer than 1x16Gb.

What is the RAM that came with the case? Maybe you could get the same one.

nb frequenzy:3789.8 Mhz... (the numbers jump around)

There should be a section that shows you exactly what RAM is used.

Something like this:
Kingston RAM 2x8Gb DDR4 2400Mhz

That´s the "MEMORY" tab, switch to the "SPD" tab, there it should show the exact part number and manufacturer, like in the posted picture before.

ok it says ddr4..model size-8192 mb....max bandwidth-ddr4-2400 (1200mhz)...manufacturer- micron technology...... serial number 1509623d...the frequency is 1200mhz ...i have 2 8gb sticks one in each slot and i have 2 slots left...would these be compatible with my pc?

What timings does your RAM support? (CAS#Latency @2400MHz) Does yours have a XMP profile which could be faster than 2400MHz?

Would get the most similar RAM: 2x8GB 2400MHz DDR4 like this one, which has a CAS#Latency of 15

for the cas latency it reads 4 different numbers 18.0,19.0,20.0,21.0....as for the xmp profile how would i find that out?

Use of extra memory, such as "the exact same model" or "identical" have no guarantee to be compatible together. Memory is guaranteed in the form sold.

What is guaranteed with a lifetime warranty is use of a single kit.

Xmp would be shown in cpu-z too, if it's not there, no xmp is available.

The one I posted should run with your system. But it's like a 10% chance that it's not working together with yours.
