If I Disconnect the SATA Data Plug while the power plug is still connected , does the drive get into sleep/standby mode ? or it keeps spinning/working at full power ?

we are working on a Data switch for a special equipment where disconnecting power is not an option . dont call people foolish before you understand .

I never said the Sata Data will be unplugged while the drive is working.

NOW , by default , if the HDD is Plugged into power , while the Data is not plugged , does it go into sleep mode by default or not ?

How exactly will you know the drive is not working when you pull the data plug?

Hello from a old storage vender worker. with any ssd or hard drive pulling power or the data cable off without commanding the controller and the drive to park (hard drive) ssd to stop the controller on the ssd from reading and writing and then flushing the temp ram of the drive can cause a ssd to go into failure mode. when we had to swap out a drive we had to stop the controller and then spin the drive down and park it. if your testing cards on a test bed use two power supplys. one for the hard drive that has a toggle switch and one for the test bed. if the drive is bad at power up you can power the drive down with the power switch and not hurt the drive or the test bed. the biggest issue with sata port is bending a pin on the test cables and shorting out your test bed. if you can try using two larger fixed connectors on the test bench where your sliding the drive into a fix connector that can take the beating. when i worked in the celera product line the shoe box pc for the servers had a high count floating connector and if that connector was damaged you could bend the pins in more then one backplane on a test unit.
