Wireless Mouse USB Dongle Won't Fit Into USB Port

My laptop has 2 USB ports so I am trying to use a hub. The small dongle for my wireless mouse won't fit into the usb ports on the hub but fits perfectly fine into the laptop's usb ports even though it is a little difficult to get a grip on it to remove it. Flash drives fit perfectly fine into the hub but I wonder why the wireless mouse dongle will not fit?

Visually check the dongle. It's not unknown for the silver part of the connector to get slightly misshapen right where the joint is. If one or more of those teeth is out of square it can make fitment into an older slot difficult, but into a new and tight slot all but impossible.

I finally got it to work. But I tried on one of the ports in the middle instead of the edges. Apparently the ports on the far left and far right of the hub are off center.
