My mouse won't work on correct side of mouse mat

My mouse isn't working on the correct side of my mouse mat. It works fine on paper and my desk and the back of my mouse mat, but not the front. I've tried cleaning the sensor with a Q tip and some alcohol and updating drivers in device manager.

It is a Utech Smart Venus 16400 DPI High Precision Laser MMO Gaming Mouse (http://www.utechsmart.com/product/show/id/477/US-D16400-GM). The mouse used to work fine on it just 2 days ago. Is there a way to correct the mouse's pickiness towards certain mouse mats?
