I have a gigabyte Z170 gaming K3 motherboard. It's updated to the latest version, but I want to downgrade it to a version where I can OC my i3 6100. It doesn't let me when Q-flashing. It says that the bios image is outdated.
I have heard that I need to clear CMOS, but I'm not sure if it's any safe to do so (I don't like doing stuff that I don't know what it does). It has a duel bios, so I would be able to update the second bios and use that? I don't know the procedure to do so.

Solution

Since you have a dual BIOS, you could go ahead and force flash it manually and if it bricks that channel, it's not a big deal since you have another for backup. You'll have to ask on the hwbot forum about how to force flash it since I've long forgotten.

By latest are you on one of F23f? If so, I'd advise in leaving things as is. Downgrading the BIOS can and will cause it to brick. It's happened in the past when you try and force the BIOS to downgrade while the Q-Flash says it's an older version.

Duel - is to fight
Dual - means two

The second unused BIOS will most likely be on the first release version out of the factory. I'd leave things as is. If you want to overclock on your board, get a K suffix processor. Saves you the headache of a bricked board and waiting on RMA(if they honor the warranty).

Yes, this the guide that I have used. At installing this BIOS, it doesn't let me as stated in the post. "It says that the bios image is outdated."
