Should I get Ryzen 2600x or i5-8500

I am torn over which cpu to get. I am seeing too many reviews and I don’t know which to get. I plan to just mostly game with a little video editing here and there. I would like the beat performance for value. Thanks!

Generally speaking Intel does a tad better in gaming compared to the ryzen line up. With that said the extra threads of the 2600 will provide better performance in recording/rendering if you decide to spend more time doing it. What resolution/framerate are you planning to game at? What gpu are you pairing with it?

9 series is about to drop on the intel side, the 9400 will be equal to the 8500 though may need a bios update on the H310, B360, H370, and Z370, but the Z390 will support right out of the box. Not that there is a need to put a locked chip into a Z board.

Intel is the better gamer, if you edit a lot then you might want the AMD

Thank you guys for your response’s. I will be pairing it with an RX580. I plan to play games at 1080p and would like to get a stable 60fps with medium-high settings. So from my understanding, Intel will give me a slightly better gaming performance, but Ryzen will give me a similar gaming performance and faster rendering, multitasking, etc. because of the extra threads. Is that correct? Thanks.

Yes, you are correct. The ryzen will also be much better for streaming as well. You don't need a 2600x. The 2600 is only 200mhz slower base clock. Both will overclock equally, which the Intel will not do unless you get an 8600k which is $100 mire after you buy a CPU cooler. For the price, a 2600 is the best value for performance.

For 60hz with a 580 you will not notice any performance difference between a 2600 and a high end intel cpu. Its mainly high refresh rates paired with a beasty gpu such as a 1080ti that a "bottleneck" may become an issue. I use a 1080 paired with my 1600 and I don't have any complaints
