Hi, i am looking for a new motherboard that will support my i7-3770 CPU the one i have found so far is this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-MS-7758-ZH77A-G43-Motherboard-Intel-H77-LGA-1155-DDR3-SATA6G-USB3-0-s/142882252245?hash=item21447225d5:g:jMQAAOSw441bGKmZ
and i am just wondering will this support my CPU straight away or will this need a specific bios that i should ask the seller for first? also i am currently running 2x4GB RAM, so if i am to buy a different kit of 1333mhz RAM will that be compatible to run quad channel with the motherboard or do i need to get the exact same model ram that i have right now. Thanks for any help :)

Aren't Z series motherboards for overclocking, because if so there is no point for me to get one because my processor isn't unlocked for overclocking

However, if they are that much more durable do you think you could recommend me one within a decent budget, say £100? and also, the z77 chipset has a cpu power socket which looks like an 8 pin while mine is 4, will it work if i was to use my 4 pin one because i plan on using the same 450w psu im using now

Why do you think you need a new motherboard?

You should ask for the bios level, but even if it is back level, the i7-3770 is likely to work well enough to get the motherboard updated to currency. Motherboards are delivered with the latest bios level so if you can get the original purchase date, compare that to the date of released bios updates to estimate the bios level.

Normal intel processors and motherboards, including the one linked do not run quad channel even if there are 4 ram slots.

Be careful about adding ram.

Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
A motherboard must manage all the ram using the same specs of voltage, cas and speed.
The internal workings are designed for the capacity of the kit.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards, can be very sensitive to this.
This is more difficult when more sticks are involved.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.

If you do buy more disparate sticks, they must be the same speed, voltage and cas numbers.
Even then your chances of working are less than 100%

What is your plan "B" if the new stick/s do not work?

Sometimes increasing the ram voltage in the bios will make things work.

If you want 16gb, my suggestion is to buy a 2 x 8gb kit that matches your current specs.
Then, try adding in your old 8gb,
If it works, good; you now have extra ram.
If not, sell the old ram or keep it as a spare.

I need a new motherboard for a few reasons, 1. My current one is buggy beyond belief i get bluescreens constantly and it sometimes fails to POST, i sent it in for repairs and he said you need a new mobo so that is what i am here to ask, 2 my current mobo has 2 dimm slots when i want to get 16gb of ram so i will try my current ram with some other ram of the same spec and see if i can get that to work, 3 i wanna run atx so i am able to fit liquid cooling into my case as my current one is mATX

1. A reasonable reason for a motherboard replacement.

2. If you want 16gb, buy a 2 x 8gb kit regardless. Plan on selling your old 2 x 4gb kit.
Adding ram, even the exact same part number is not guaranteed to work. Perhaps 80-90%
If you buy a second 2 x4gb kit and it does not work, are you prepared to try again or what.
3. It is not clear if it is your motherboard or case that is currently M-ATX.
I presume your current motherboard is M-ATX and you have a larger ATX sized case.
4. What is your case? What is your current cooler?
Since a i7-7700 is not overclockable, you do not generate enough heat to need unusual cooling.
If you are using the stock intel cooler, that should work ok if it is installed properly.
What is your current idle temperature?
The main reason for an aftermarket cooler would be to reduce cooler fan noise under load.
A simple $35 tower type air cooler will do the job if you have 160mm available.
There are other negatives to a liquid cooler.
They are noisier, disruptive of positive pressure cleaning airflow, do not cool any better, are more expensive.
And... an air cooler will not leak.
