Can Ryzen 5 2600 oc to 4.1Ghz+ using the hyper 212x on MSI B450 Tomahawk MOBO or it needs a better aftermarket cooler. If it needs better can you suggest some good ones, affordable in Indian market.

I know about the silicon lottery, but always hope for the best,:bounce: I can see that Hyper 212x is good for Ryzen 4.0Ghz OC but if i win the lottery, will it be capable to handle it 4.1Ghz+.

Referred : Stock vs Hyper 212x on Ryzen

How well you can oc any processor is determined by your luck in getting a good chip.
The better ryzen chips capable of overclocks past 4.1 will be found in the more expensive processors such as the 2700X.
You could get lucky, but do not count on it.

Why not try to oc with your current cooler.
See what the temperatures are like.
If you think lower temperatures will let you go further, then try a better cooler.
Hyper212 is not one of the better $35 tower coolers.
For that , look at the scythe kotetsu.
Here is a review:

It is the voltage that drives up temperatures. you may well be getting into an uncomfortable voltage level before you reach thermal limits.

cm 212 was introduced some time ago and was well received as a budget cooler.
Since then, better coolers at that price point have emerged.
Some are easier to install, some are quieter, and some cool better.
Look at the last pages of the scythe kotetsu review I linked to above.

I came across the kotetsu when I needed to replace the cooler on my son's pc that I was updating at Christmastime.
It included a overclocked I5-7600K

I needed something in a hurry and found it on amazon with next day delivery.
I was surprised at how well it cooled, and particularly how quiet it was.

I use a b450 tomahawk and noctua nh12. I am new to overclocking and didn't want to take voltage as high as what I read on some reviews. You can push to 4.0 with minor voltage tweak. I just moved voltage up a few clicks and it was a stable at 4.0. I went to 4.1 with Same voltage I think it was like 1.25ish and cpu froze. I believe I need around 1.3 to 1.4 to get 4.1 and beyond. From everything I've seen 4.0 or 4.1 is a good spot for very stable performance, maybe up to 4.2, but not past, at least not while being stable.

This noctua is insanely cool. During a 10minute cpu full load stress test it stays at 56. I went 6 min the other day at 56c and 10min today. Hasn't cleared 60 since I've owned it. I want to test an hour, but I have been gaming too much.

They cost a bit more at 60$, but you can add any 120mm for a second fan and comes with extra clips to attach it. Very quiet and feels well built. You can't find a better reviewed cooler, but it is expensive. I think it's worth it when you consider how cool it runs. 2 days of heavy gaming and benchmarks and I've yet to hit temps outside of the 50s
