I have been looking for a new processer (for gaming) that is compatible with my mother board. Currently Im using a AMD FX 4350 and will be getting a 1030 soon.

Motherboard: ASROCK 970M Pro 3
Budget $150
For gaming

Thanks in advance

Looks like it's a proper AM3+ motherboard. So any AM3+ FX CPU will work on it. Just make sure you are on the latest version of the BIOS before installing a new CPU.

Assuming you live in the US this is the CPU I recommend as your upgrade
The AMD FX-8370
It's as good as it gets for you and comes in at just under $130 retail price.

Alternatively, if you raised your budget just a little bit then you could get this instead.
The AMD FX-9590 OEM/Tray (which means it doesn't come with a cooler)

Then get a cooler to put on top of it
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Seems that the best option is within budget - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/WGPzK8/amd-fx-8350-40ghz-8-core-processor-fd8350frhkhbx

There are better options (on paper), but their benchmarks are not much better, and they're more expensive. Note that the CPU is 125W to the 4350's 95W, so consider cooling and PSU issues, if already using kit that's borderline.

Also bear in mind that the single core speed of the 8350 isn't much over your current CPU, so what improvements you'll really notice will be quad or multi-core related:

It might be more in your interest to put the cash away and consider a new mobo / CPU / Ram bundle. You could get a Ryzen 3, and B350 board, and 8GB of RAM for under $250:

This advice depends on prices available to you, but I'd try for the fastest FX 6xxx CPU you can get, then spend the rest on a 1050. A 1030 DDR5 card is going to seriously limit game performance, to the extent that maybe spending money on a CPU upgrade might not be worth it.

A lot depends on the games as well. An FX 8xxx would give you max possible performance in CPU heavy games, so in theory a 1030 isn't such a limiting factor.
