the internal hd failed on my laptop. so i bought a new laptop. both are running Windows 10. the new computer will not recognize the external hard drive. when i attach the hd i get the message "the last usb device connected to the computer was not recognized" .
i looked in diskmgmt and it does not show the drive. and i looked in dev mgr and again nothing, no inoperative drives. the key thing to me is that this external drive has never been connected to this machine. so i suspect setup of something. it's an older hd, probably 10 years old (WD2500b15).
I have tried two different usb ports and both work with other devices. i also tried a new usb cable.
since this drive was working on the old computer, i would b unlikely that it has failed. i mean what are the odds that two hard drives would fail at the same time? not likely.
