Hi guys

I have a doubt, i don't know whats the best processor for me, i actually have a Maximus Hero VIII, with an i5 6500, 16gb ddr4 and the GTX 980 OC 4gb, i have with me an i5 7400 7th gen processor, i thought it was supposed to be better, i searched a bit on the internet and i saw the 6500 is actually faster even being from a previous generation, is this true? i wanted to install this CPU on my PC, i even updated the BIOS for the motherboard to support 7th gen processor but after my research i decided to ask the best community first.

Cheers

im so sorry, i have to correct, its an 7400 what i have lying down, not the 7500....

On my experience the Core i5 7500 is faster than the Core i5 6500 but not by much.
I have seen a 5%-15% increased in performance and also depends on how cool you can keep the Core i5 7500.
I wouldn't switch the Core i5 6500 for the Core i5 7500, since is not worth the investment unless you get for free or a very good deal.

I'm still quite satisfied with my 7700K.

I said to wait, but who knows how long 'new' i7-7700K will be available. Their price may not come down. Used pricing would improve though.

your better off returning the cpu if you can. right now you have amd that have there next gen cpu in eng sample testing right now. on intel side there still not down to 10nm cpu that they want too. there also ran out of fab space for there 12nm cpu that causing the cpu prices to spike. one issue with intel is if they do drop there 10 nm cpu and there a new chipset with them your going to have to buy a new mb at the same time. as i stay with intel i dont upgrade every new cpu drops as there only getting a little more speed out of these refreshed cpu. it when you go from the older ivy bridge or older cpu to one of the newer cpu is it work it if your a gamer.
