I have a motherboard Foxconn G31MXP and i’m installing a Xeon E5450 that is 771. Obviously i’m doing the famous “775 to 771 mod”. When i put the usb to update the Bios to support that cpu appears a message: DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
What can I do? I tried different usb, different pages to download the flash... Obviously i’m trying all the updates with de intel core 2 quad because with the xeon the bios don’t start.

The BIOS file and flasher are small enough to fit on a floppy so that is probably the best way.

There are a lot of reasons USB won't boot--wrong BIOS settings, wrong filesystem, USB stick too large, etc. You did make the USB bootable, right?

The manual isn't much use because it only describes how to update the BIOS from their Win32 utility within Windows XP or Vista.

Just to rule out possibilities:

Do you have an E5450 already adapted to 775, ie with two additional notches and with the adapter that exchanges some pins? Is that so?

What processor are you using when you try to update the bios?

Are you sure that your motherboard allows BOOT from USB?

Is the USB formatted to FAT16?
