Hey guys I am currently using a lenovo thinkcentre M92p. Specs :

8 GB ddr3 1600mhz
Core i7 3770 3.4 GHz
Asus GT 1030 2GB Gddr5
280watt power supply
500GB Blue W.D 7200
Lenovo LGA 1155 Q77 Express chipset Motherboard.

Anyway I want to upgrade my graphics card to a GTX 1070 ti since this one is bottlenecking the hell out of my cpu but if I am to upgrade my GPU I must upgrade my psu as well.. so I want to know if it is safe to connect a 600watt/550watt psu to this old motherboard ? Or should I upgrade the MB as well ?

Solution
Okay, your motherboard doesn't have a standard 24-pin ATX power connector. That would be a problem.

You may be able to get around that with an adapter - https://www.amazon.com/NEORTX-Power-Supply-Adapter-Lenovo/dp/B00WE5KSFQ

Found that solution here - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/ThinkCentre-M92p-Tower-amp-SFF-power-supply-upgrade-options-14/td-p/1226169

It should be safe. The motherboard is designed for lower power, but it will only pull the amount of power it needs. It's not the same as putting an adapter on a more powerful device that your power supply can't handle.

There is a wide range of low and high quality PSUs available. Best to check back here before you buy a PSU. Overall, the newer and better models come in 550W, 650W, etc. and not 600W, 700W, etc. So, a good 550W would be better than an older cheap 600W.
