I7 8700K Hot Or fan problem

Hey guys i have maybe dumb question xD so recently i build a brand new pc with nzxt x72 i7 8600k cpu 2 2080 sli gtx . i oveclocked it cpu to 5ghz and im getting 40C on idle and around 80 while playing and it feel a bit to hot. i wos thinking maybe i put fans in case wrong way i got few pictures take so u could take a look at it.

1St picture is 3 front fans attached to radiotor on the back.
2nd picture is 3 top fans
3rd is 1 fan at back of case
maybe i just gat them faced the wrong way or something im not sure.

Yeah then you are right. Air should be going in the front and out the back or vice versa depending on the surroundings. Double check your pump is working correctly. Also what is the ambient temp in the room?

You just have an incredibly hot setup. The die on those 2080s are huge and the i7 runs super hot especially at 5 Ghz. You could always try delidding and using liquid metal since it is much easier now with the delidder tools but there is always a risk of damaging something and it voids the warranty.

Hi karolm,

What are your settings for that overclock?
Is your CPU dellided?
If not, you have your answer, you need to dellid.

In fact even with the better "traditional" cooling system, the bad thermal paste put by intel between the IHS and the die prevent heat to go to the cooler efficiently enought...

Without really researching the fans to know with way they should face...... air should come in thru the front of the case pulling air across the radiator. the top and rear fan should be exhausting air out of the case.

top
rear

Dont try to fight mother nature, hot air rises use it to your advantage.

Pretty much the same motherboard and 8700K as me... One thing for sure is at 5GHz the CPU will run hot. It is critical to understand your vcore for that overclock as most of the heat generated is coming straight from the voltage to sustain 5GHz.

Your setup is not too bad at all in fact very good with the fans pushing air through the radiator and into the case and out the top and back but aggain for a 5GHz overclock a stronger cooling setup is needed or lower vcore. 40 degrees idle is a bit high but okay, it's your max at gaming which is a bit high at 80 degrees c.

If you can find out what your vcore is at max load Prime95 v26.6 that would help as we could see if you could reduce the vcore...I have mine on a Offset/adaptive and at 5GHz I had it pinned down to max 1.327. I dropped to to 4.9GHz at 1.278v for my 24/7 overclock...

Other than that, I went through the same thing and finally delidded my 8700K with a massive improvement, dropping idles to late 20' degrees C and max loads at 60 degrees C under AIDA and Prime so more than worthwhile and wasn't as bad as I though it would be. Though I am using a 360mm AIO.

THanks for your anwsers so i did fliped fans in the front but temp dropped maybe like 1C i did went back to neutral settings in bios so im 4.5 ghz and after stress test im getting aroung 60C. So im gonna start thinking about delidding my cpu and see how hot it would be after thanks for ur help

i have problem setting my vcore volt in bios every time i set a value manualy with keybord going back and checking it again it goes back to auto dony know why

Dude I would be super worried about an auto overclock at 5 Ghz. The voltage varies quite a bit and I guarantee it is going super high and making it that much hotter.

The Gigabyte BIOS can be funny. You need to go in and set to 'normal' before a vcore will set. Use the + or - key or start typing normal and hit enter and only then can you set vcore voltages...

LLC also becomes critical, I have it set to High but you might need Turbo...But I would look at the link I sent you on the motherboard and 8700K overclocking, there is a lot of help in there for your specific board and settings to help.
