Should i go for Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel i5 9400, i know that the refresh is not yet released but i could hold up to this year end and in INDIA, the price of Intel i5 8400 is equal to Ryzen 7 1700 currently, so i hope the prices will be stabilized during the launch.

I'm currently in dilemma of getting the Ryzen 5 because of the pure gaming purpose of my PC and the striked ones of my old config is going to an office build PC.

My current config is
[strike]CPU: i5 3570
MOBO: Intel DH77KC
RAM: 8GB CORSAIR[/strike]
GPU: RX 570 Nitro + Sapphire
PSU: 620W Seasonic
COOLER: HYPER 212X
CASE: ANTEC P8
SSD: 850 EVO 250GB
HDD: 3TB Seagate Barracuda.

So what do you guys suggest.

If all you are going to do is game on this PC , just go Intel. They are faster out of the box and even faster when overclocked for gaming.

Hi. It depends on your entire configuration as well. If your build is mainly for gaming. And assuming you're keeping that RX 570. Then either Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i5 8400 will serve you well. If you plan to use high end graphics card in the near future then i suggest you to take the i5 8400. Because high end graphics card play nice with intel cpu. No need to wait for 9000 series because it is only a coffee lake refresh lineup with minor bump in clockspeed. Gaming performance will be identical. But mind you. That i5 8400 is a locked cpu and you can't overclock it unlike the Ryzen.

i prefer gaming at ultra/high gaming in 1080p (40 fps++ in AAA titles like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Shadow of Tomb Rider etc) and 60fps++ in MMORPG games like DOTA,PUBG.
My question is does the overclocking of Ryzen provide the headroom for the worthy upgrade over the i5 8400/9400.
For 1080p gaming i won't upgrade my RX 570 until the next gen 2060 or AMD counterpart is released.
So i want my CPU to cope up with that card and should also be future proof with good upgrade path.
Note: The prices of Intel CPU here is not justifiable 20K INR for i5 8400 whereas Ryzen 7 2700 is 22K INR. So if i'm going to buy the processor now it won't be INTEL but i don't want the money aspect to cloud my judgement that is why i'm waiting for 9400 to give Intel a chance.

That is a difficult question to answer when you mentioned good upgrade path because so far only Amd mentioned before that socket Am4 will be supported until 2020. While Intel never guarantee such a upgrade path for quite some time. And you should know that even the current 8th gen intel cpu aren't compatible with the older 200 series motherboard despite having the same socket. And overclocking the Ryzen does indeed provide better performance in selected titles than i5 8400. It's just that going intel saves the hassle of overclocking to reach the great performance. And mind you to get the best out of Ryzen you need a more expensive DDR4 3200mhz CL14 Ram. Unlike intel you can get a 2666mhz DDR4 Ram because intel doesn't really need that kind of Ram Speed to achieve desirable performance.

Mind you. That 9000 intel cpu is only a minor refresh over the current 8000 series so don't expect to see the difference in real world performance. Well if you can find the Ryzen 7 2700 for that price i would suggest you to go for it.

Ok, then i have decided to go with
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
MOBO: MSI B450 Tomahawk
RAM: Corsair 8GB*2 LPX DDR4 3000Mhz

Is this a good combination or any other suggestion.
Can i OC the CPU above 4Ghz using my previous config as mentioned in my original post.

Well this is the best what you can get right now. and for overclocking anything above 4GHz would be hard to achieve or it won't be stable with the stock cooler still if you want go beyond that you might need an after market cooler like corsair or cooler master liquid cooler. but i would not suggest you to go beyond 4GHz rest is up to you.

here is an option for you if you haven't bought R5 2600 yet then consider 2600X which comes with much better cooler and gives around 10% more performance for extra 2500-3000 INR

assuming the 9400 is just a 100 MHz faster 8400, however, it should do nicely in gaming until streaming is introduced....

The 2600 does reasonably well when run at 4.1 GHz and with 3200 MHz RAM...

Most folks likely could not tell the difference with most GPUs likely to be paired with either of the two CPUs...

I have decided to wait for the new set of processors especially the 7nm from AMD(Zen2) going to be unveiled in CES and also for the DDR5 which is about to come with the new set of processors, Hope they arrive to the market by March 2019.
