Top o' the morning everyone!

I got myself an 8700KK last year (new so still 2 years of warranty), but it's far from being a golden chip. It's running at 4.9Ghz at 1.35V on an MSI Z370 Gaming and cooled with an H115i. I reapplied some new thermal paste (Gelid GC Extreme), but still way too hot (70-80C) in games such as AC Odyssey, where all the cores and threads are being used, with some at over 70%.

I am tempted to delidd it, I have already did that in the past with an 4770K using a vice, scary af but it went well, but I have merely used the Arctic MX5 because I was afraid of using liquid metal.

Now, my question, I know it's totally worth it to put some liquid metal inside but how about some non conductive TP instead?

Hi angelblake,

When you delid, and replace the Intel paste with another you can gain about 5°C, no more. a paste is still a paste (5-10W/m/K)

But if you put metal liquid(70W/m/K) between IHS and DIE, you can gain up to 20°C.

Taking the risk of deliding leads to use metal liquid. If not, it's a waste of time considerinf the risk...
If you use it correctly (there is plenty of videos showing how to use it) there's no risk of short circuit!!
