Picked up a Ryzen 2600 recently from a local best buy since they price match online.. Had the stock cooler for a couple days and then it was time to clean it off while swapping to the Noctua that arrived. The stock paste makes a pretty big mess, there was a bit on the side. I used these really tight cotton face pads (no loose cotton) with some 91% isopropyl alcohol to clean it off and so far everything seemed fine.
There was definitely some paste on the sides, no question about that, but after viewing this picture online I believe there was less than I original thought. In this picture you can see what looks like paste on the side, but I think this is just part of the cpu unless they took this photo after removing the cpu and left paste.
So basically I started wiping this area a bit more because I thought it was something I wanted to remove. There were some spots where it stayed and then I figured this is just how it is or maybe I just can't reach it well enough to remove it. I didn't keep going and going, but I did wipe it a nice bit. Started to notice what looks like a silicon seal around the edge and that's when I let off.
So for almost a week now everything is great, benchmarks all hitting top scores, super cool, great performance.. Curious if this could possibly cause an issue later on and if so I would just swap it out locally since I'm within the return policy.
