rx480 throttling and high fan speed

Hi guys, I know there is many threads about it but I couldn't find any solution for this... A month ago, my card started acting strange. I have throttle in every single game, doesn't matter is it some newer or older game.. even moba games throttle. I was monitoring gpu stats and there is some drops in mhz and fps...I tried to delete drivers with ddu and replace it with other drivers but still the same.. that throttling can be best seen in fps games, when I walk, it's like a lag in online games. and I forgot to mention that sometimes temps go high pretty quickly and then my fan sleed goes crazy, like almost full speed and then my computer shut down or restart it self.If anyone can help,I would be appreciated. (ps. I tried gpu on another computer, same things happened) is that a sign I need to change my gpu? sory for my english, I hope yoh understand.

CPU: Ryzen5 1600x
GPU: XFX RX480 8GB
PSU:Zalman 600w
Motherboard:AsRock A320M
Ram:8GB DDR4
SSD:samsung Evo M.2 250GB
HDD Seagate TB

Your PC is clearly restarting because of GPU over temps.

It could be possible that the cooler got loose from the GPU die.
Your XFX must be assembled a while ago. I would recommend you to change the thermal paste and see of the problem is solved. Get a noctua NH1 or anArctic MX4. The thermal paste they use is just okayish.

sorry, I forgot to mention that I changed thermal paste after throttling appeared, but that didn't solve the problem.I tried with gpu voltage, older drivers,I even tried to reinstall windows, tried with win7 and 8.1 but still the same. Idk what else to do, honestly. It drives me crazy.

The only possible cause for the problem might be the cooler.

Can you tell me how hot the cooler fins and the exposed copper pipes by touching them.

When the GPU core is at say 75'C, your cooler must be at least around 65'C to 70'C to efficiently dissipate heat.(GPU core heats cooler, cooler dissipates heat by forced convection using fan).

If the cooler is cool but gpu is hot. It means that the cooler is unable to efficiently transfer heat to the environment or the cooler is not at all heated by the GPU core.

You have added a new thermal paste, see if you have applied enough paste
Do a trial and error method:
1) Apply a pea size in the center, tighten the screws fully
2) remove it and see if the paste is applied correctly(Should cover the entire die, but not too much)
3) Go ahead and over tighten the screws, they should stop when there is enough pressure.
4) See if the cooler has enough contact with the GPU

Once you have gotten this issue out of hand, we can narrow down your problem.

My vague guess would be that the liquid in the copper tube must have evaporated somehow(I don't know if it even happens, but there's nothing else to blame in your case). check for damages in the corners of when opening the GPU

as I mention above, the problems started before new thermal paste was applied so I doubt it's because of that...I checked it and there isn't any visible damage on gpu, especialy not on heatsink pipes..

If that's the case, I am out of ideas :??:. I will tell you when I find something.

Can you please post your clock speeds, voltages and idle temps?

yeah, sory for delay, I wasn't at home... I was tested gpu a few min ago, the temps are showing about 85-90,and speed fan goes high again, but when I touch gpu it's almost cold.. Is it possible that some gpu sensor gives me false meassures and my card is throttling because of that?

Could be.

Let's try something else.
Update your motherboard bios, we will see if this fixes the issue.

Are there any repair shops around. You could ask them if they can repair it. Have you tried asking XFX for repairs?

If you can figoure out something from this..it was tested on The Division, that orange line goes up and down when throttling apears

I haven't played "The division". I don't understand what you are saying.

Could you monitor and log the following parameters in-game and send it via a excel file.

Parameters to monitor:
1) CPU temps,usage, clock
2) GPU usage, temps, clock. wattage, fan speed

the only 4 options here are incorrect reporting could cause a shutdown, failing fans rattling could make it seem like they are running fast, the GPU could have just plain up died, lastly power delivery could be glitching by over watting/ overvolting the card and causing it to run hot this could either be on the GPU or on the PSU.

thank you guys for tried to help me, but I think I just solved the problem... I tried to run furmark, there was a throttling in test,I shut it down after 5 min and everything is ok now, no more throttling... Idk what just happened but thank you furmark
