Hi, im looking to set up a RAID 0 for the first time. My setup : Asrock ab350m pro4, Ryen 1700, WD 500gb m.2 ssd, and 2x samsung 1tb hdds. so my question is the following: can i set up a raid 0 with my 2 hdds and keep the ssd as the boot disk? and if yes how can i do that outside of windows (like from bios)?

Solution

I wouldn't.
Just adds another point of fail.

well i’m trying to combine my two hdds into one for faster performance and easier management. it’ll be my mass storage for games and big files etc... also why do you advise against raid 0? what is the problem with it?

1TB + 1TB + RAID 0 = 2TB
1TB + 1TB + no RAID 0 = 2TB

Same space. Game performance will not benefit from that RAID. Management will be worse. More points of fail.
If either drive, or the RAID controller fails (or even just burps a little bit)...all data is lost across both drives.

All you gain is a single drive letter instead of 2. But you already have more than one, so no real benefit there.
So dedicate one drive to games. The D drive.
Dedicate the other one, the E drive, to all that other stuff.

Well my games take up more than 1TB and i cant split up my steam library. Can i maybe combine 2 drives into 1 without RAID 0? What does striped combining in windows do?

You can absolutely split a Steam library.
You can have games on multiple drives or folders.

Steam games location
In the steam client:
Steam
Settings
Downloads
Steam Library Folders
Add library folder

To move an already installed game
Games library
Right click the game
Properties
Local Files
Move Install Folder

Just run them as separate * drives, YOU ARE GOING TO CAUSE A PROBLEM PLAYING WITH RAID. If you aren't smart enough to google/wikipedia, and figure out why this is a terrible idea, ***. Just run them as separate drive letters and move on with your life.

But a 1TB SSD like a normal person.

Oh well good to know. At this point im probably just annoying you but is creating a spanned volume from the 2 disks an option?
