System Info:
CPU: Intel i7 6850k (6-core)
Mainboard: ASUS Strix X99 Gaming
Cooler: Corsair H115i
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LED 3200MHz

Hi guys

I have lately played around again with my overclocking.
since i read something about running BCLK on 125MHz i tried that out.
It didn't work out and my bios failed to start.
So i made a CMOS reset and took my old settings from a usb stick.

The settings always were running stable at 4.3GHz
CPU Voltage: 1.3V
CPU Cache: 1.25V
CPU Input Voltage: 1.9V
LLC: 5
RAM: 3200MHZ 16-18-18-36 2

Now my problem is: the overclock doesn't work anymore.
At first bios showed me the MHz i've overclocked to (for example 4300MHz) but windows showed me 3800MHz (Cpu-z, hwmonitor etc.).
Now bios shows me 3600MHz and windows 3800MHz.
I have cleared CMOS sometimes, reflashed bios and tried out many many overclocks.

Nothing worked.

I can't bring it up anymore, in bios it seems that the voltages apply but the frequency stays at 3600MHz.

I really have no idea what to do now since i have tested everything out that came to my mind.

CPU: Intel i7 6900k
Mainboard: ASUS Strix X99 Gaming

The exact thing happend to me this night 2018-10-07, OC just stoped working, tried to re-apply it in Bios but dosent work, only thing that works is to change the core speed 100 -> 103 to gain a slight OC. If I instead try to apply the OC with AISuit it instantly BSOD.
Have tried to update bios to the latest and the beta version. Nothing seem to work.

Have tried Windows10 and Ubuntu, so its not an broken update from windows it seem.

Edit:
Seem the problem is related to https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?104978-Broadwell-E-users-watch-out-for-Windows-10-KB4100347-update

Edit2:
Confirmed uninstalled the update and blocked it from updating, now the OC works fine again.

first clear cmos by removing the battery

when you apply bclk 125 to X99 system, you need to apply the according strap of 125 (to lower dmi/pcie speeds back to 100). usually there's a setting in the uefi/bios for that but each mobo manufacturer may show a different wording for that. look up your mobo manual for more info.

bclk 125 is used to get your memory sticks to above 2666mhz. you don't need to overclock bclk if you are satisfied with running ram at 2666.

very interesting, i just noticed the 3.8GHz yesterday and had updated to Redstone 5 (Version 1809) like 5 days ago.
I didn't check my speed since the update i was always running on 4.4GHz before.

My bios OC is working normal again, it says 4.4GHz and i just have 3.8GHz in Windows.
could it maybe be related to redstone5?

I wanted to give it a try and remove that update stated in the thread you linked but my update history is clean since i installed redstone 5

EDIT:
SOLUTION

Reverted update of Redstone 5 (Version 1809) to Redstone 4 and got my 4.4GHz again.
I wrote it down in the reason field that came up while reverting, let's hope they do something about it.

so now after beeing back some days on the previous windows version i lately got an update and today noticed that it was the problem update.
back on 3.8GHz and on my way to remove the update.
Problem update as stated in the linked thread: (KB4100347)

EDIT:
I just changed my overclock from cpu strap & bclk 100MHz to 125MHz
now im running at 4375MHz with a multiplier of 35.
the bad thing is im missing 25MHz on cpu but i now have an additional 50MHz on my RAM (3250MHz)

since i don't know if intel and microsoft are going to do something about that and i don't want to miss out on redstone 5, i think this is a good work around even tho it needs some time and experience in overclocking.
