1600 mhz ram is only working at 1333mhz

Solution
Your ram is 100% working at 1600mhz, I have never known cpu-z to be wrong EVER.

Those latest bios ahots also show 1600 mhz.

Regarding ssd space , windows pagefiling sets a percentage of your total ram free .
So 4gb less space with twice as much ram installed, sounds about right.

If it bothers you that much set a 1 or 2 gb pagefile limit manually, it will rarely if ever get used with 16gb ram installed.

I personally set the pagefile to one of my secondary platter based drives instead of ssd.

With the information given, it is likely that your motherboard only supports 1600 MHz RAM at certain timings. With the timings at 9-9-9-24 it is likely that your motherboard only supports RAM speed of 1333 MHz. Be aware that the difference is nearly negligible and both operate close to the same speed, as the 1600 MHz RAM supported by your motherboard would have higher latency.

I realize it looks right when I look at speccy. But in the bios is says 1333mhz.

My motherboard is an asus z97-a, it's a decent motherboard.. pretty sure it supports the ram timings.

What is cpu-z?

So is my ram functioning at 1333mhz according to the bios or 1600mhz according to speccy? lol.

I don't know how you could be confused by what I'm asking for. In the BIOS, there is a screen, or tab, or page, or whatever you want to call it, that has the memory configuration settings on there. Generally, memory configuration is a sub-setting available on a page like AI Tweaker or Advanced settings and will open a whole new page when you click on it.

For example:

And then you can open the memory timings page as well:

And as mentioned, the memory and SPD tabs on CPU-Z are pretty much infallible. In order to see the SPD information you will need to select on the top left in the box, the memory slots (one at a time) that have installed modules in them.

Also, if you download and run HWinfo (Not HWmonitor) there is a lot of information to be had there too.

@darkbreeze, i think the information you're looking for is the link i posted in my very first post. Maybe look at it?

I recently bought 16gb ram 2x8, same brand and timings as the old 8gb set. I just put in my old set and it works fine at 1600mhz, showing in the bios. I switched back to the 16gb set and it still shows 1333mhz.

I also noticed i had 4gb more stroage on my ssd with the 8gb set, rather than 4gb less with 16gb set, is that normal? With 8gb i had 170gb free space, with 16gb i had 166gb space left.. is that normal?

Here are some pics from CPU-Z, is everything normal?

For ram in cpu-z, it says DRAM freq. is 799.9MHz.. so that's working at 1600mhz? I don't understand why my bios would say otherwise.

The less storage space doesn't bother me, was just wondering to why the space was lost, but now I know. Thanks.

The RAM still shows 1333mhz in the bios on the home page, but everywhere else I look at the ram speed it says 1600mhz or 799 DRAM, so it must be glitched or something and is actually working at 1600mhz.. lol..

Thanks for the help
