Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my Threadripper 1950X and Memory speeds. My Corsair CMD128GX4M8A2666C15 8x16GB kit REFUSES to run on 2666 CL15 at the stated 1.2V, no matter what I do. I can get it partially stable, so that I get a BSOD once a week or twice a week which is not great since I want a stable and fast system. Normally I wouldn't bother with fast RAM but the Ryzen architecture strongly benefits from higher RAM speeds.

Motherboard is ASUS ROG ZENITH EXTREME with the BIOS version 1003 from before the AGESA upgrade for the Threadripper 2 as I do not plan to get one. Maybe shall I upgrade my BIOS to the most recent version?

The Threadripper is currently not overclocked (how should I even get started if the RAM doesn't overclock properly?!), except for the SoC pushed to 1V since I've read that it can make memory more stable. The Threadripper is cooled by a Corsair Hydro Series H115i with two 1400 maxRPM Noctua fans.

Other hardware:
400 GB Intel 750 Series NVMe PCIe Card SSD (OS)
1000 GB Intel 6000p Series M.2 NVMe SSD (Games + Documents folders)
GeForce Titan X 2nd Gen Maxwell.

Also, the BIOS is ignoring stuff I enter!!
I entered CL15 and it shows it running as CL16. I don't get it.
Secondly I set Command Rate to 2T, but it still runs on 1T?!

I tried to bring the DIMM voltages up to 1.4V for both banks and it made it POST with all modules at 2666 CL15, but this way I got minor stability issues in the form of a BSOD every 3-5 days (with SoC voltage on 1.1V). :/

In addition: When the System was new and also young, this kit wouldn't even POST with 128GB. Maximum was 64 so 4 sticks, after some new BIOS versions, it finally posted at 2133 CL15...

Do I do something wrong or is it just all for vain cause this RAM just doesn't run properly with this setup? :C

I was stupid anyway, I should have gone for 64 GB instead and should have get even faster RAM which is certified to work with this setup.

Allegedly the memory kit I mentioned above is in the QVL of this motherboard, though... But I doubt it or Corsair did changes to the kit that makes it difficult to run it within the XMP parameters.

Is there any chance to get this to work at 2666 CL15 reliably?

Nobody can help here? :C

Many thanks!

I would highly suiggest that you update the BIOS. On another note, are you running on X.M.P or did you manually key in the numbers and stickered info? Also try setting the maximum voltage on your ram to 1.35v and see if that holds, provided you've updated the BIOS and yet you have no dice.

I've worked on two Threadripper 1950x builds and both were on DDR4-3000MHz with X.M.P enabled. Clients haven't yelled about instability issues so I can't comment further however with AMD's platform, I prefer to input timings, frequency and voltage manually into BIOS.

Hi,

thanks for your suggestions. I keyed in the values manually as D.O.C.P. doesn't even POST...
Okay I will upgrade the BIOS and try again.

It could also be a driver issue or my Windows is broken, cause it is stable no matter what I do, even on huge loads. But then, on light loads it randomly craps up and crashes applications or the whole OS...

So I will reinstall Windows as soon as 1809 is officially released again from scratch (with BIOS on ALL stock), then try again afterwards and come back with my experience.

Thanks!

Is it possible to save overclocking profiles in the BIOS and also on a USB stick that you can load after a BIOS update/reset? This feature would be REALLY nice!! If that's not possible yet, this is definitely something I will suggest ASUS!

So, I did not reinstall Windows yet, since Microsoft doesn't want to release the new version 1809 into the Media Creation Tool yet.
These settings seem to be stable after testing with 3 simultaneously running FFMPEH libx264 FullHD encoding jobs for 15 Minutes:

Ai Overclock Tuner: D.O.C.P. Standard
D.O.C.P: D.O.C.P DDR4-2667 15-17-17-35
Custom CPU Core Ratio: Auto
CPU Core Ratio: 40.00
Memory Freq: DDR4-2666MHz
SOC Voltage: Offset 0.0875V
VCore: 1.375V fixed
DIMM Voltages: 1.375V fixed

Tdie peaked at 83°C
Is this worrysome, do I have to upgrade my cooling solution? It's a Corsair Hydro Series H115i with 2x 1400 RPM Noctuas.

Cinebench score: 3357

I guess I know what's going on. Either my RAM has a dead module or it is just not compatible cause the version number is not listed within the QVL list.

I will close this thread and open a new one which is about finding the fastest 64 GB RAM compatible with my setup.
Thank you all for reading and trying to help.
