Hello Peeps,

I know people have asked this question before. And believe me I have read all the answers, But I can't find the answer that truly answers the question above!
Now acknowledging that each person has a different purpose, a different budget, and yet a different specs planed ! And therefor, here is mine for simplicty!

I plan to:
1-Gaming (MAIN) "PUBG,GTA 5, WARHAMMER TW2, FARCRY 4/5 ..etc" /Some 3D Rendering/Editing "Photoshop (1) , Premiere or Sony vegas (2)" (SECOND but RARELY as well)
2-Using GTX 1070 OR GTX 1080?
3-Using the Build for at least 4-6 Years.

My build specs:
RAM: DDR4 16GB (8x2) (Clock Speed of 3000).
ROM: SSD 1TB Samsung EVO 860.
CPU COOLER : LEPA - AquaChanger 120 103.6 CFM Liquid CPU

First thought: drop #3. Too far in the future, things will change too much in the meantime..

Second thought: If the game spec's recommend one or the other then go with what is recommended.

Third thought: If I own stock in one or the other companies then my answer could be self serving.

Fourth thought: there is no answer. Either one can or may work and either one may or may not perform as you wish. Or may or may not fit in well with your overall system.

What works for some will not work for others.

Too many variables and all answers may be true. None are absolute with respect to AMD Threadripper or (actually vs) Intel i9-7900x.

My recommendation: match to motherboard and go hopefully forward.

4-6 years, as said a little, too far into the future to assume either will still,do the job.

The ryzen is hyperthreaded though & for that reason alone its going to get my vote over any i5 6 core be it locked or not.l when it comes to future proofing.

I recently ordered the r5 2600 on Amazon for around $165. I'm by no means a tech expert but given how the motherboards work with Intel processors I would recommend the ryzen on value. It's going to be hard to beat that processor for $165 with six cores.

Here's what I think. AMD is the value option. If you want good value for the dollar go with AMD. If you care mostly about having the highest fps possible go with intel. Either way when you play at what I consider realistic settings they will both play about the same. That is 1440p high to ultra settings with a bit of AA. Running a GTX 1080 at 1080p is just plain wrong. You should get a GTX 1060 for that or a GTX 1070 for high refresh rate 1080p. Ryzen will work better for video editing. And if getting Ryzen allows for you to get a better graphics card then by all means go for Ryzen. My pick would have to be the Ryzen 5 2600. For the price it just is unbeatable. Where else are you going to get 6 cores AND 12 threads for under $160? And it can also overclock. Usually 4.1GHz is possible right out of the box. Intel has a very small ipc advantage but Ryzen 5 2600 can overclock and when overclocked it can match or beat 8400 in most single core tasks as well. In tasks that take advantage of the higher frequency and use all the cores the i5 8400 is blown away.
