Upgrade worth it?

Hi,

I am currently running 2 x GTX 970 in SLI and get fairly decent performance on my machine. I run a dual-monitor setup with 2 27" monitors native at 1440p. Gaming is specific to just 1 monitor (no extended display). The monitor setup is unlikely to change anytime soon.

What I was wondering if there would be a significant boost in performance by going to a single card (non-SLI) setup on a newer card? Ideally I would like to spend under $600 but the new GTX 2080 are priced more than that. I would also look at the AMD's as an option if those are a better fit. What do you guys think?

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response. Given my current setup would you suggest that the 1080 would be enough? I have a feeling the 1080TI would be overkill and it costs a lot more to boot.

Alternatively there is the Vega 64 too but I am concerned given the reviews about how it runs hot and is power hungry.

Thanks.

I would get the 1080, typically the 1080 will perform better then the Vega outside of a few AMD optimized games. Yeah the 1080ti might be overkill but watch out for sales/rebates, not sure where you're, but with the release of the RTX cards both the 1080 and 1080ti have been on sale for incredibly low prices.

Thanks again. I am based out of the US (Seattle area). The 1080TI appears to be pretty much out of stock everywhere I look and am not sure how the prices will look like when (IF?) it comes back in stock. Right now I am seeing:

GTX 1080: $500+
GTX 1080TI: $750+ (based on price when in-stock)
GTX 2080: $800+

Do you expect the 1080TI price to drop off significantly in the next few weeks?

Thanks.

2x 970s on SLI is about equal to a single 1070, if the SLI scaling is good.
Finding an upgrade to your 2x970s is quite easy, anything from 1070ti or higher will do the job nicely.
The list are:
1070ti
1080 or Vega 64
1080ti or 2080
2080ti
From price/performance point of view, I would limit only to max 2080.

That makes sense. The 2080 does appear to be similar in cost to the 1080ti. I am thinking that could be an option as well in this case.

Is there a realistic chance that the 1080ti comes back in stock and also at a reduced price or should I focus mainly between the 1080 and 2080?
