I have recently had an 8700k that gave up last weekend. What should I replace it with the 8086k or the 9700k. They are both £499. The 8086k would come from overclockers UK Pre binned with liquid metal. Or buy the new 9700k.

It will be in a full custom loop with a gtx1080
It will mainly be used for gaming

Which is better for me as I have no clue?

I got the CPU in December 2017. I know it is still under warranty but I have a feeling it was caused by something other than just a typical fault. It was also overclocked to 4.9

The PC first started crashing and turning back on ( It wasn't overheating) it had run overclocked since new and been fine. then it just wouldn't turn on at all.

If it's under warranty then this shouldn't even be a question, I'd get another 8700K and leave it stock for now and maybe do some testing to figure out why it died on you. While stuff like this can happen it's still very rare.
