Hi, all! I have an interesting problem that maybe you can help me solve! I bought a used GTX 970 off of a guy for dirt cheap, and went to test it in my system - but my system doesn't start with the 970 installed. The lights flash in my system for maybe a quarter second when I press the power button, and nothing else happens. I tried resetting CMOS, reseating the card, using a different slot, changing BIOS options to detect only the discreet GPU (had to uninstall the 970 to get to BIOS), and nothing.

BTW, I have a GTX 980 Ti that works 100% fine in this system in all slots with zero issues... so I have a feeling it isn't a PSU issue - the 980 Ti has a higher power draw and works flawless.

Any advice about the 970? Is it fried/did I get ripped off?

My rig is as follows:

I7 4790K
ROG Maximus VII Formula MB
24 GB Corsair 1600 MHz RAM
Corsair TX850M PSU
Lepa Aquachanger 240 AIO cooler
PNY 480 GB SSD
Toshiba 5 TB HDD

Looks like you got ripped off mate. I don't even think trying the card in another PC is going to do much for you but if you have one handy i would try it their before you completely write it off. Hoping you can get your money back !!! If your in Australia i have one listed on Gumtree that does work !!!

Is this a situation where I can try to 'bake' the GPU to get it to work?

I paid 50 bucks for the 970, so I'm not exactly crying... both the 970 and my 980 Ti are MSI Gaming cards, with the same fans/similar heat sinks, so at the least I'll have spare parts....

I'm not so lucky; it was an internet-based hand to hand sale. I contacted the guy, and he isn't responding. Go figure.
