Hi, I have currently in my system a Gigabyte 78lmt-USB3 Micro ATX mobo. I have bought a normal ATX mobo, new ram, and CPU. They will be here all at the same time in a few days. I just realized that I have no extra mobo standoffs. Will the ones in my Micro ATX be enough to hold my ATX safely until I can get more, or is it totally not safe at all. I just really hate to have all the parts and be waiting for a few standoffs for days. I also don't have a local PC shop that would have any. Thanks!

Solution
Well, you don't NEED them all. Just be sure to install as many things as possible while the motherboard is outside of the case. Get the RAM, CPU, cooling solution, and as many power connectors as you can put on with a solid surface to press against. PCI cards shouldn't be a problem. The standoffs are mainly there for support. M-ATX uses close to the same number, just with different spacing, so you should have relatively few mount points without them.

Solution

Yes I do. Mainly because you might want to add more RAM in the future and forget that you are missing a standoff or two, go to push it in and crack the board.

For a temporary solution you can run with a few missing, but try to get them installed in the near future, at least before you forget.

micro atx has 6 the full size 8-9. the issue will be the lower two slots on the new mb are longer then older mb. a temp trick is use two-three rubber feet from a local hardware store. to keep the mb from hitting the mb tray. you be find for a few days as long as you dont try to bend the end of the mb that has no support.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from camdenlink7 : "Motherboard standoff question"

So, I need to buy some extra mobo standoffs because I'm upgrading from a M-ATX to an ATX. Do I have to buy two seperate things, the standoff and a screw for the standoff or is it just a standoff? Thanks!
