Silent cooling 480 vs 420

420mm rad (3x 140mm) is better both cooling and noise wise than 480mm rad (4x 120mm) since:
* surface area of 420mm rad is a bit bigger than 480mm rad has
4 x (120^2) = 57600 sq mm = 576 sq cm
3 x (140^2) = 58800 sq mm = 588 sq cm
* 140mm fans move more air and do it more quietly than their (same spec) 120mm counterparts
Also, to further reduce the noise, while maintaining cooling performance, you can go with push-pull to increase the static pressure. E.g 6x 140mm @ 1000 RPM instead of 3x 140mm @ 2000 RPM.
