SATA not detected after spill on motherboard

A couple of days ago I spilled a nice glass of cider right onto my motherboard..oops.

I immediately powered it off, removed everything including the cmos battery and have cleaned the board pretty nicely with some contact cleaner and compressed air. I have tried the hard drive on another board and it works fine. Is it possible that the reset bios or something similar has caused this rather than a hardware failure? I don't really have much idea what I'm doing with the bios settings.

Motherboard is an Asus M5A78L-M

Thanks for any help. I'll happily provide more info if needed.

The damage could had happen at the moment of the spill, since liquids can create a conductive path for electricity, easily creating a short between the circuit traces on the motherboard. Electrical components keep a charge in capacitors even for hours after power is removed.
Most drinks contain chemicals or additives (sugars, acids, etc) that could corrode a motherboard and make it fail.

Using isopropyl alcohol and electronic cleaner can remove and clean most spills without leaving any residues in any socket or connector.
Residue in a socket or port could prevent proper contact.

in the bios make sure the sata ports are set to achi mode not raid. on some mb there two sets of sata ports. one controlled by the mb chipset and one controlled by a 3 party asmedia chipset. make sure the hard drive on the right sata ports. if not in the bios see if asmedia is turned on or off.
