I am planning to buy the Netgear(R700-100PAS) Nighthawk AC190. Should I stick with this one or should I get a different one? PS I am getting COX ultimate plan 300 Mbps. Also, what modem should I get with it?

Solution
If you do not want to pay the $5/month for a modem get the Arrris Surfboard. You will need at least the SB6183 or better, if you plan to ever move to Cox Gigablast you need the SB8200 (I have Cox and want to but have one step down and can't get Gigablast).

Routers are all preferential. I prefer the Asus line but the Nighthawks are decent as well.

Solution
I have the R700-100PAS on COXs ultimate plan and it works very well. Both my roommate and I are gamers (plus hes a streamer) and we haven't had any issues. It also is supposed with some 3rd party firmware, so if you want to experiment with WRT, then you have that option.

As for modems, Cox has a page of their certified modems here
https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-certified-cable-modems.html

Avoid any modems that use the Intel Puma 6 chipset (ex. ARRIS / Surfboard SB6190). I have the SB8200 and it performs like a champ with the Ultimate package.

The issue with the Puma 6 modems was fixed with a firmware update pushed quite a while ago.

*Edit, got it mixed up with user based updating vs ISP pushing the update out so never mind on the update procedure. However I'm still seeing people having latency issues with regards to puma chipsets, especially in the gaming arena.
