Hello everyone,

My question is actually i recently upgraded to an better GPU (From gtx 960 4gb to gtx 1060 6gb)
I Bought it at a store telling me this wud had been a big upgrade for my system.
There is barely any difference FPS whise in the games i play. (Fortnite and league of legends mainly)
For example fortnite i get exactly the same fps than i had before and still those huge fps drops from 200+ to around 80-90fps when alot off stuff is happening. (Everything on low settings)

My System:
Processor: i5 4690
Gpu: Asus gtx 1060 6gb dual oc
Ram: Single 8gb ram (DDR3)
Motherboard: Gigabyte G1.Sniper B5-CF
PSU: Gigabyte Superb E620

Hopefully some one can help :)

Please keep in mind, don't just go and buy another 8gb stick and put it in your system.

You need to have a kit where both sticks come together as a package and are guaranteed to run together without issues in dual channel.

You can try to run another random stick of 8GB RAM with your current one but mileage will definitely vary. Might work at first and fail after a week, could just not work at all from the start, or could work perfectly fine for years and years. Nobody knows. Better safe than sorry to just buy a fresh kit. Can get away with 8GB of RAM for modern titles still but 16GB is highly recommended at this point.

If on a serious budget though, then get an 8GB kit of 2x4GB otherwise if you have the budget for it, then a 16GB kit of 2x8GB or 4x4GB whichever is cheaper.

for Fortnite, I don't see how your i5 is bottlenecking and getting you those frame drops when on lowest settings.

Something else might be happening.

What other programs do you have running that could be using up all your CPU?

I actually make sure that im only running fortnite i close every program besides fortnite.
fortnite just seems to need almost 90%+ cpu ive tried to cap my fps to 144 since i have an 144 hz monitor nothing is helpig at this point i also tracked my cpu through task manager and with rivatuner.
the fps drops seem to apear when my cpu is between 90-100%.
i also took a look at the monitoring off the cpu and i see alot off spikes my cpu seems to go up and down constantly between 50-90% not stable not sure if thats ok?

Although you shouldn't have issues with a copy of W7 with all the latest updates, it is an older OS that while it was great, has it's fair share of issues with certain games and is at the point now where even game developers aren't really supporting it for using it to play their games. It's possible that upgrading to W10 could fix this issue, but could also be that your OS is being bogged down by something and a fresh install of W7 would fix it as well.

But I wouldn't know since I haven't used W7 since W8.1 was released and have been on W10 since the beta.
I personally haven't experience issues like this with a game like Fortnite on any decent hardware when using W10.
But then again, I also keep a clean OS with no weird programs, bad/broken files, a properly defragged HDD, etc.
