It might just "work", but there's no guarantees. That's why matching kits/pairs are sold.
No harm in trying, I've only ever had a mis-matched setup not 'work' a couple of times. Just make sure you try your best to match speed/timings and ideally brand/model too.
Safest bet would be to sell & replace, but there's certainly no harm in trying.
